Sturmtiger

In response to popular demand we are pleased to introduce this new kit of the unusual Sturmtiger variant.

With its imposing 380mm rocket launcher, this is sure to be a popular crowd pleaser and a very impressive model. This strictly limited edition is being released for delivery Winter/Spring 2012.

This heavy infantry support vehicle, using a common hull and suspension to the Late Tiger 1 was introduced late in WW11 (1944).

By removing the front of the Tiger's superstructure room was made for the fixed fighting compartment housing the rocket launcher. The Sturmtiger was much shorter in length and a little lower than the regular Tiger tank.

The official German designation was Sturmmörserwagen 606/4 mit 38 cm RW 61. Produced mainly for Combat in Urban areas, up to 18 of these vehicles were produced in total. By this time most German forces were in retreat and with only 317 rounds produced in total. The Sturmtiger was most famously used at the siege of Warsaw where the use of the powerful 380mm rocket launcher devastated city blocks.

Several Sturmtigers were captured by the allies, however only two still exist. One in the Armour Museum in Kubinka, which is in a poor condition, however the second can be found at the Panzermuseum in Munster, which is an excellent example.

A 380 mm Raketen-Werfer 61 L/5.4 can also been seen at the Tank Museum, in Bovington.

Features of the Sturmtiger include:

Fully sealed hull and sealed axles and shafts giving full wading ability
Improved wheel bearing and sealing arrangement
Bolt on hub caps for ease of maintenance
Up rated torsion bar suspension featuring single bar bearing and torsion bar anchor system
Includes shell loading crane and hatch
Many detail improvements
